The Oxford Dictionary names news word of the year

The Oxford English dictionary has officially decided that the word vax (or vaxx) is to be the word of 2021. Whether you pro or anti vax, I think we can all agree that this word fully merits its award, over the past year, however hard we may have tried, we have not been able to escape it.

But before this, vax was not commonly employed. To quote senior editor Fiona McPherson, “Vax goes back at least to the 1980s, but according to our corpus it was rarely used until this year,” This demonstrates how everyday language is constantly changing, evolving and for a language learner, to grasp and master a language, it’s necessary to know and keep up to date on languages trends.

MyDialogue recognises this. This is why we have created a learning program which teaches a learner to speak English through our sessions, which cover relevant, varied, topics, updated weekly. The sessions teach users new words and ideas, and give them the opporunity to practise these words with an English tutor so that their language is constantly updated and they are able to understand the nuances of the English language and speak like a native.
